Sketches of Canada  -  arr. Michael Story               Level 2.5/3               Belwin/Alfred Publishing

    

American composer and arranger Micheal Story has arranged three Canadian folk songs for level 2.5-3  concert band.  Each movement is in a contrasting style, meter, and key. Featured in this relatively new work are:

    i)  The False Young Man - 2/4, quarter note = 112, Eb

   ii)  The Maid on the Shore – 3/4, quarter note = 94, Bb

  iii)  Brave Wolfe – 4/4, quarter note = 126, F

Hush  -  Bill Thomas               Eighth Note Publishing          Easy

​

This ballad is written in a lullaby style, and uses a lot of transparent and independent writing.  There are feature parts for piano and saxes, and a canonic exploration of the melodic material.  Written in 4/4, quarter = 66, it is laid back and accessible, an easy level selection.

Compositeur et arrangeur américain Michael Story a arrangé trois chansons folkloriques canadiennes pour harmonie au niveau 2.5-3. Chaque mouvement démontre un contraste de style, de chiffres indicateurs et de tonalité. Cette nouvelle pièce met en vedette :

Cette ballade, au style de berceuse, utilise beaucoup d’écriture transparente et indépendante. Elle met en vedette le piano et les saxophones, avec une exploration canonique du matériel mélodique. Écrite en 4/4 (noire=66), cette sélection est au niveau facile et au style décontracté.
