Ripples in the Sand (Flex)  -  David Marlatt               Level 2.0               Eight Note Publishing

    

Canadian composer, arranger, and publisher David Marlatt has created a series of flex band arrangements of Canadian works in a 5 part, multiple instrument option style. These arrangements are simple to work out and work well for uncertain or limited instrumentation, as well as for smaller ensembles. Ripples in Sand was published in it's original form in 2007 and in the Flex form in 2014, and takes it's inspiration from a Japanese Zen garden. The transparency of the flex version works beautifully with the simple nature of this inspiration.

Muted trumpet and flute open this medium level swing chart, and carry on through out, moving into solo work.  It is set at an easy swing tempo (4/4, quarter note = 128), and written in B flat.

Compositeur, arrangeur et éditeur canadien David Marlatt a créé une série d’arrangements de pièces canadiennes en 5 parties pour harmonie avec instrumentation flexible. Ces arrangements sont simples et idéals pour des groupes à instrumentation limitée ou incertaine et pour de plus petites ensembles. Ripples in the Sand a été publié dans sa forme originale en 2008, et dans la série Flex Band en 2014; elle prend son inspiration d’un jardin japonais Zen. La transparence de cette version Flex fonctionne très bien avec la nature simple de son inspiration.

Une trompette avec sourdine et une flute débutent cette pièce de style swing au niveau moyen; cette combinaison d’instrument continue jusqu’à devenir des solos. Cette pièce est un swing avec un tempo assez facile, écrite en 4/4 (noire=128) et en Sib concert.
