Although we are planning for for an in-person experience in Toronto, health and safety will remain our top priority. We will adapt to public health measures as needed, and any changes will be communicated with participants as soon as possible.

The Canadian Band Association is committed to fostering an environment supportive of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility. We encourage everyone to participate in our programs and in the programs of their respective provincial chapters.

The National Youth Band of Canada (NYB) is the most comprehensive music education youth project offered by the Canadian Band Association. In 1978, 1991, and annually since 1994, the National Youth Band of Canada has provided an opportunity for the country's outstanding 16-22 year old musicians to gather for an enriching and inspiring musical and cultural experience. It is an outstanding opportunity to perform under the leadership of a renowned Canadian conductor and a Yamaha Canada Music Ltd. featured soloist. The NYB experience also provides each of these young musicians the chance to network with some of the finest instrumentalists from across Canada. The NYB is the premiere youth wind ensemble in Canada.

Every year the band travels to a different Canadian province for one week of intense rehearsals and performances. This past May, under the baton of Dr. Mark Hopkins the 28th National Youth Band of Canada was held in Winnipeg, MB and hosted by the Manitoba Band Association, Brandon University, the Winnipeg Wind Ensemble, University of Manitoba, and Yamaha Canada Music.  The Yamaha Performing Artist with NYB 2019 was Patricia Evans on French Horn from the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

From April 26-May 3, 2020 the National Youth Band was scheduled to be in Halifax, NS.  The band was to be based in Halifax and performing in the Halifax area and the Atlantic Festival of Bands.  Our guest conductor was to be Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser and the Yamaha Guest Artist was Michele Jacot.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the event needed to be postponed until the spring of 2021. The NYB 2021 tour was rescheduled for April 25 - May 2 at the Atlantic Festival of Bands and the Halifax Region. Those plans had to be adjusted and resulted in Virtual NYB 2021.

Martin Boundy, Dennis Prime, Bramwell Tovey, André Jutras, James Hargreaves, Stephane LaForest, Bobby Herriot, Gerald King, Glenn Price, Gillian MacKay, Tania Miller, Alain Cazes, Denise Grant, Marvin Eckroth, Fraser Linklater, Karem Simon, Colin Clarke, Shelley Jagow, Wayne Jeffrey, Cynthia Johnson Turner, Colleen Richardson, Jonathan Dagenais, Gareth Jones, Robert Taylor, Jason Caslor, Jeremy Brown, Wendy McCallum, and Mark Hopkins are all accomplished Canadian musicians and conductors who have brought outstanding artistry and musicianship to the NYB podium.

The CBA was formed in 1934 to promote and develop the musical, educational and cultural values of band music in Canada.
